Underwater Basket Weaving

What skill would you like to learn?

Can you imagine what an amazing basket weaver you’d have to be to be able to do weave baskets under water?

Not to mention how you’d be an exceptional diver, too, if you can basket weave without diving gear. The lung capacity!

So, you’d be a great diver and you’d be amazing at basket weaving. And wouldn’t that mean the baskets you weave would endure under water? Because they’d have to hold, wouldn’t they?

us, all

and the candle flickers
a quick wobble of light
letting shadows pass unseen
slip silently into the night.

roman letters written
like footprints on white
a sandy trail of thought
dripping grain for grain
into that part
so conscious
before a salty wave of recognition
floods it all.

and in all this
the silence lifting
a tripping beat
tum-ti-tum
life’s relentless drum
beating beautifully
in the sheltered home
of a ‘me’, a ‘you’
together

here and there
us, all.

two springs flow
clear against ancient bows
those sacred curves
rushing, slipping
silent-secret in shining liquid
quenching the sun
wetting monuments of once hottest blood:
molten stone erupting
oozing softly to the shore, burning
birthing an island in virgin foam.

seasons passed unheeded
storms raged and poured
and jagged peaks softened
deep as velvet, curved
seamed with crystalline white
bright-mystic black
silent against the endless surf;

yet deeper, and deeper still: the living heart
blooming bright against emerald blue
vaulted high and crisp
an untouched world
singing light and brilliant with wind-beat song.
