Do you have a flag?

If you could have something named after you, what would it be?

One of the nice lakes on Mars, so that when humanity inevitably colonises Mars in the 2200s, and Mars becomes its own superpower in the 2300s due to continuous antagonism to Mega-Coloniser Earth, native Martians will holiday at Lake [My Name] and have long conversations over Pathfinder Beer that end with arguments about “Goddamn Terrans and their $£%&ing colonial BS!”

Martian Authorities and the Martian populace, however, will not question Lake [My Name]’s naming because the majority agree it’s actually quite fitting and gives the place a kind of mystic feel. Lake [My Name] will be known for restful getaways where Martians relax and recuperate from their forever-war with “those Terran bastards.”

imagine once

Castle_by_VonKalkmann

there is something in the silence of the clear lines,
the divine arches of the old orders, now long lost in time
where silver and marble, wheat, amber and gold
were the wealth of a few amongst many;
that time, once, so far away
celebrated today in lands of plenty
a time, once, where life was short, hardship unquestioned,
and the sweetness of solace a luxury felt to the core.

A time, yes, when fire was known for its ecstatic warmth,
the flames divine and terrible, their power
and presence felt too often on human skin and human soul;
a time, too, when water was the sword of truth
by which holiness was divined, though to drink it alone was unwise
unless in beer, ale, or wine;

that time where earth and air were powers that gave and took
that made and broke whole realms with wind and weather and storm,
by the droughts so dreaded, and crops finally growing,
the rains prayed for , the sun steadily glowing…

…can we, today, in our lands of plenty
imagine once, just once, what it meant to be, to live, back then
when time was sun and moon and stars,
legends holy and sung, the songs of praise whispered and hummed
over open fires, heating the cauldrons that fed all in house and hut,
after thanking with grace and gratitude
the great, the holy, the oneclouds 1

Hallowe’en is not far away,
so here’s something small for you to read

Merci for liking,
Merci for joining,
I hope you keep on reading, commenting,
and of course enjoying:
You truly are the best!

Eyes seen in darkness
Scanning
A swish of a tail
A smell of far-off hail
In the air
There
No, there
Maybe…

Echoes howling faraway
A silent silvery back
Glides between shadows
Halting once or twice
Waiting
A shiver, real
tingling
icily
down young spines.

A lone figure standing,
seeing
everything
A glance, flickering
Shadows enveloping
the seven, hiding
Six disbelieving
Waiting in suspense.

Gasping, a whispered shout
Did you see?
Did you see!
A hand cupped hard over a mouth
A fierce whisper
Shut up!
Heartbeats racing
Silver bullets
waiting
for the ancient terror
lingering
In the dark of Night.

The howl so sudden
So close
No!
Shut up!
There!
RUN!

Screams piercing the night
Gunshots exploding
bright flares
in darkness
deeper
louder
Howls and Screams
Growling
too close, too close!
Confusion
Terror
Irrevocable understanding

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

I told you! I told you!
I TOLD you it’s there!

Crimson spreading
dripping
the scent intensifying
leaving a trail
Cursing
Crying
Prayers flying
From sputtering, trembling lips
This can’t be –
They’re myths –
They’re just make-believe!

We can’t, we can’t!
We must.
But that’s blood!
That’s real!
That’s a bite!
I don’t care, get inside
Get inside
GET INSIDE!

A scramble,
A struggle
back into the secure cabin
doors slamming
tires screeching
Lights fleeing into the night.

Luna declining
Silver fur gliding
Under old shadows
Into the vast Night
A moment of silence
before dawn, rising
A dim flash reclining
into misty worlds of silence
ancient spells
alive, living
Alone in the dark of Night…
