Slow down

What’s your #1 priority tomorrow?

Prio 1: Enjoy existence.

When you grab a snack or get another cup of coffee: do a breathing exercise as well.

Take a moment to recalibrate.

You are here. It is now.

We are collectively hurtling through space while circling a star.

We arrive with ourselves, we leave with ourselves.

Everything else is details.

Professional Zen

What profession do you admire most and why?

Micromanager [irate]: Where’s Employee XYZ?!

Office Warhorse [tired]: No idea.

Manager [indignant]: But the Office Thing!

Warhorse [calmly]: Did they meet the deadline to Project 123?

Manager [grudgingly]: Yes.

Warhorse [interested]: Can you fire them?

Manager [annoyed]: No.

Warhorse [impressed]: They won’t show up.

Manager [exasperated]: Why?

Warhorse [wistful]: Because they have achieved perfection.

Attention, please

What makes a teacher great?

Teaching is like stand-up, except the audience can’t leave.

A good teacher listens to what is not being said.

A good teacher is a tour guide to the world, with niche interests.

A good teacher knows their subject so well, they can admit to their own ignorance.

A good teacher remembers their students are young humans growing, learning, developing.

A good teacher understands that being liked and being respected are two different things. And that liked and respected often overlap in the best of them.

Agent: It seems so, sir.

Boss: Naturally. Contact Mission Control.
