Pull the lever, Kronk!

Have you ever liked a villain more than the hero? Who and why?

1. Yzma had every right to be upset. She literally ran the empire, and she practically raised the boy, only for the brat to pink-slip her without a warning. 100% understandable crash out.

2. Ursula was very upfront about the “poor unfortunate souls” situation. There was a song. Conversations were had. Miss Princess was literally told.

3. Maleficent was very ready to forgive and forget. Then King Stephen & Co. had to go and be disrespectful. Naturally, everyone got hexed. Zero surprise there.

Finally, all three powerful ladies are excellent Mages in their own right. They also have a wicked sense of humour, and each one has impeccable style.

I will take no further questions on this matter.

Do the thing.

If you had to give one life-changing tip, what would it be?

You know what it is.

You think about it randomly. It probably pops up once a day. A thought here, a sigh there, a quiet wish, a silent yearning.

You’ve been putting it off for so many sensible reasons. Except they’re just that: reasons.

You consider it and something sneers, “Be realistic.” But what’s so bad about making something real?

So, do it. Do the thing. Plan for it. Prepare for it. Put things in motion to make it happen. Small steps, baby steps, mistakes here, mishaps there, trial, error, shining success, outright failure – it’s all part of the process. And yes, trust the process. It’s forward motion.

You’re thinking about it right now, aren’t you.

So, take that first step. One, two, four, seven, and suddenly you’re walking.

Worldbuilding

Hello, hello!

Before I begin, I wanted to shout out to the new followers here at threegoodwords. Thank you, Merci, and Dankeschoen for joining me here in my little corner of the internet. I sincerely hope you enjoy your stay!

Now: Why worldbuilding?

Well, if you’ve been dropping by threegoodwords every now and then – or maybe even regularly – you might have seen The Cup and the Sword at one point. If you read those first attempts at Fantasy, thank you so much. Fantasy is a new genre for me, in as much as I never really tried writing anything full-length. However, The Cup and the Sword, though as yet unfinished, fired up other writing engines, and now I have a whole world to explore.

What do you mean with “explore”? you ask.
There are stories to tell about the world found in The Cup and the Sword, pasts and presents, histories and futures, not to mention the Gods and Monsters not only Gav and Bara have to face. It’s a far bigger world than I expected when I first started The Cup and The Sword, and now I have a Story – not just a few chapters – where the world can be seen in fuller scope.


What is it about?
Much like Gav in his dilapidated shed:
The awfulness of War and the bright, bitter hope for Peace.

Will there be tears?
Yes, but also joy and laughter and song.

What about magic?
Present and accounted for.

No seriously, should I bring a box of tissues?
It can’t hurt. Allergies flare up rather suddenly sometimes.
And some unhelpful people like to randomly cut onions…

What’s the title?
Once the final draft is at Absolutely Final Draft Do Not Change stage, I’ll talk about it nonstop.

When will it come out?
As for deadlines and “Where can I buy it?” I hope to keep you updated regularly since this post is really a very long way of saying: I haven’t written anything longform in a while since I have actually been writing a book. I think it is almost done, but then editors can be ruthless…

I guess people used to say, “Watch this space”? Hopefully,  I can show you more soon.

You don’t start with perfect

What’s a fear you’ve overcome — and how did you do it?

You begin with trying and failing and trying again.

And eventually, after trials and tribulations, and much wailing and gnashing of teeth, you get to a point where you feel, “You know what? That’s actually good.”

And that moment. That is perfect.
