Are we really taught
to understand
what it means to grow?
And why up?
Why not down?
Like down to earth and down payment
such adult little things
where you’re suddenly the one saying
“Keep it down” to the kids.

I mean, so many questions
are left unasked
until the envelopes arrive
stamped and signed
asking, demanding
most politely
for you to sign off
your right to be alive.

A:
Well, child
What am I to say?
We’re all just muddling along
doing our best to stay warm
be happy
and avoid strife.
That’s what it’s all about
this thing called life.

So be warm
stay happy
and when faced with
a hitch, a turbulance
a bona fide forest fire
fix it
fight it
ride it out.

It is, after all, your life.

reflection

fall and thoughts sail down
like leaves off a tree of self
doubt and certainty

asking, wondering
so many etcetera, too many to count
silently loud
in the quietness of hidden hearts;

questions that linger
ever since ‘I’ became ‘Me’
and ‘You’ was separate
apart, a part of everyone
else
someone, somebody
a body beyond the self
‘I’, ‘Me’
sad hours seem long

that room where they come and go
why Michelangelo?

consciousness, they say
is when a mirror loses its wonder
and becomes reflection.

this is what we have
a sense of confinement that is open
static yet moving
a constant attempt to decipher
the senses trick or treating
us to another’s perception;

always desirous to
touch beyond skin
and hear the voice
that reaches our inner ear

as deep as heartbeats go
beyond skin and bone
to that marrow that others call soul.

+++ Apologies, but I’ll have to be a bit of a spoilsport in matters of awarding, I haven’t blog-browsed a lot of late. BUT if I do get 10 blogs under 200 on my must-read list, Liebsters will happen.+++

1. Why did you decide to start a blog?
I love reading and I love writing. Blogging is a great way to do both.

2. Are you a student? If so, what are you studying?
Nope. I was once, though. Fun times. Ahem.

3. Where is the best place you have ever been?
Hmm… I’ll say: Rome. Incredible place. The food. The history. The weather. Just don’t go at peak tourist time…

4. Who is your favorite author?
That’s a tough one. Well, here are a few I hardly ever say no to reading: Haruki Murakami, Zadie Smith, David Mitchell, Lindsey Davis and Terry Pratchett.

5. Who is your favorite band?
Oh dear. I love too many to pick, sorry.

6. What are your views on fan fic?
A select few are very, very good. Otherwise… let’s just say, I really enjoy the tumblrs So Bad it Hurts and MarySueProblems.

7. What superpower would you have?
Telekinesis. I think.

8. What would you do if you could change your appearance and become someone else for a day?
Ah, don’t tempt me. Dastardly deeds begin this way…

9. Are you an activist? Why or why not?
It depends. If supporting a small charity that helps orphans go to school is activism, then I’m an activist.

10. Do you have any pets? What are they?
A cat. I’m her can-opener and heating device. I know it’s love.
